The South Korean video game company, NCSoft, has participated in Epic Games’ ‘State of Unreal’ held at the Game Developers Conference 2023 to introduce Project M.

It has been announced that Project M is an interactive movie game, and it is the most ambitious project that NCSoft has ever undertaken yet. Take a look at the [Project M] Official GDC Trailer, courtesy of NCSoft’s official Youtube channel:

Project M’s overall concept, as presented in the trailer, is derived from the question, “How would the fabric of simulated reality impact our perception of the world if we could manipulate the arrangement of those particles?” It is also mentioned that every encounter and every moment would be crucial in the world of Project M, indicating that it will be a decision-based video game, which makes sense given that it is intended to be an interactive movie game.

As of now, the new teaser has still not revealed much about Project M, but it has certainly showcased the hyper realistic and cinematic look of the game, which has been made possible thanks to Unreal Engine 5. Only a few details about its gameplay have also been disclosed, including some glimpse at the narrative and action choices that will allow players to steer their own path to the game’s conclusion and influence the protagonist’s approach in fighting enemies. Moreover, neither the names of the characters nor the storyline of Project M had been brought up.

Throne and Liberty, an upcoming MMORPG and another highly anticipated release from NCSoft is claimed to launch in the second half of 2023. As Throne and Liberty has been in development since 2011, and since it has been subject to a series of delays, fans are anticipating that further details about it will be revealed at this time. The reveal of Project M has truly taken fans by surprise, since most of them were awaiting a new announcement about Throne and Liberty, particularly now that the rumored launch window is approaching.
