Need for Speed Unbound, the divisive new sequel in the hit racing franchise from developer Criterion Games and publisher EA, has just released a brand-new trailer for Volume 3. The new update is set for June 20th, 2023, and will feature a variety of changes. This includes a new Speed Pass system, Chat Wheel, premium content, Drift Playlists and more.
Need For Speed Unbound released in December 2022, and is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and the Xbox Series X|S. You can watch today’s Volume 3 reveal trailer on the Need for Speed YouTube channel:
Today’s teaser opened with a Back to the Future nod, introducing the ’81 DMC Delorean as a challenge reward, and that’s sure to make viewers perk up. The car looks gorgeous, and it’s neat to see that it can actually leave flames in its wake.
Compared to the free Volume 2 update that released last March, there are some much bigger changes this time around, though. To begin with, the Speed Pass is an inevitable addition, where players earn various cosmetics by progressing.
However, there will be “75 free cosmetics and customizations”. It’s a proven system that should help incentivize players more than endless challenges. According to the new trailer, players will have access to Speed Pass content until August 16th, 2023, hinting at the schedule fans should expect.
Volume 3 will also add 16 player linkups and a Chat Wheel, which is sure to make on-road comms much easier. There will also be more free-roam improvements, including the highly requested teleportation.
It feels like the devs focused a great deal on smoothing out quality of life features, which probably would have been very beneficial at launch. It’s hard to tell if this is too little and too late, though.
