Need for Speed Unbound is entering its second year with a roadmap to mark the franchise’s 30th anniversary. The roadmap, revealed by the developers at Criterion Games, details a year of themed updates. This includes new gameplay modes and ongoing improvements based on player feedback.
According to their blog post, Criterion wants to play to the different eras of the franchise. To cater to this varied nostalgia, the roadmap promises “exciting themed updates” within the four planned content volumes. Specific themes have not been revealed yet, but they will likely draw inspiration from past Need for Speed titles.

The upcoming volumes will bring new gameplay modes, but no specific details were given. Two new customizable cars are coming in each volume through the Speed Pass, giving you more options to personalize your rides. Criterion focuses on offering a wide range of interchangeable parts so players can feel more like they influence the vehicles. Even if you stick to the free tier of the Speed Pass, you’ll still get access to new vehicles and customization choices.
Addressing community concerns, the roadmap emphasizes the “Kaizen” approach, a Japanese term for continuous improvement. The roadmap introduces a new Premium Speed Pass in Volume 6. This paid tier gives you early access to new vehicles and unlocks more customization options, including custom versions and exclusive parts.
