Ahead of its launch on Oct. 27, Alan Wake 2 has been releasing a series of behind-the-scenes videos showing the process of making the title and the developers’ motivations. In the latest trailer released earlier today, players can get a look at The Dark Place and how Alan Wake has changed after being trapped for 13 years.

Just like the time between the two games, Alan Wake has been trapped inside of this nightmare reality for 13 years, which has changed his character a great deal. However, Director Sam Lake states that he always knew that Matthew Porretta and Ikka Villi would be the voice and physical actors of Alan Wake, respectively.

Lake makes clear that these characters are what define the main character in Alan Wake 2, returning from the first title. Both Porretta and Villi discuss the collaborative nature of their work together, with the former describing it as a picture that they paint together. Villi says that while Wake was more cool in the first title, there’s not much of that left after over a decade of being lost.

All that Alan Wake can do is write, something that the writer of the game describes as being a unique opportunity to turn his own profession on the character. He tries to find a way out using every tool at his disposal but he has remained trapped for thirteen years.
