Pokémon’s highly anticipated new anime series has just released a brand-new trailer, featuring a variety of characters and details. There has been an equal share of excitement for the anime’s future and bittersweet disappointment, since it was first announced that the iconic Ash and Pikachu would be replaced altogether. So, every tidbit of information on the series’ future is crucial to win over longtime fans, all of whom grew up with Ash and Pikachu until now.
That’s especially true after it was revealed the new series would be set in the Paldea region, because Scarlet and Violet have one of the most divisive storylines in the game series. Each protagonist has been given a mysterious object, so hopefully the lore will take the opportunity to expand on the latest gen’s setting in more interesting ways.
Both of the new protagonists, Liko and Roy, seem pretty adventurous and have potential. Hopefully they’re distinguishable enough to create some classic banter and misadventures.
Thus far, Friede and Captain Pikachu seem to have the most personality. The anime wisely added another Pikachu, as it’d be far too strange to have a new anime series without the face of Pokémon. Fortunately, Captain Pikachu already looks and feels completely unique from Ash’s beloved partner. It should be fun to see a Pikachu with those responsibilities.
It’s nice to see that the premiere will take the time to run a full hour, which is rare. It implies the show will have a fair amount of mythology to establish, and that’s promising.
