Roblox has recently shared its Creator Roadmap, which offers a preview of some new features and capabilities coming soon to the platform. While the roadmap is not a comprehensive list of all upcoming features, it gives users an idea of what to expect in terms of enhancements and additions to Roblox.

The Roblox team’s vision is to provide powerful, flexible workflows for creators to build next-generation immersive 3D experiences and user-generated content (UGC). They are working on building a foundation that makes it easier than ever to create high-quality content and adding flexibility to creators’ day-to-day tasks. The company is also exploring ways to open the platform in a stable, supported, and future-proof manner. As a part of this, they will be holding several ‘Office Hours’ sessions soon to share more and answer questions.

Some of the exciting new features and improvements coming to Roblox include selection improvements, Explorer Search Filter, and Multi-Cursor in the Script Editor, which have reached full release thanks to user beta testing. Other planned features include Drag Detectors Beta, Camera Speed and Rotation enhancements, a redesigned Studio Ribbon, Live Scripting Beta, and Window Context Cues.

Roblox Studio is a professional tool that supports long periods of sustained creation, and the company is investing heavily in both bug fixes and quality of life improvements. Some of these improvements include Studio Docking, Faster Play Launch Times, Improved Team Create Join Time, Terrain Customization, Script Editor performance enhancements, Script Diff Window additions, and Custom Logging.

In addition, Roblox is releasing aerodynamic simulation as its first fluid dynamics force, enabling completely new types of physically-accurate content. Future lighting performance improvements will make it possible to enable the feature on Android devices and establish it as the default lighting model.

The creation of large, lifelike worlds requires substantial computational power and storage capacity. Roblox plans to offload these needs to the cloud, ensuring creators can reliably develop megascale experiences without disruption while collaborating with teams of any size. Some cloud-based features include Team Create Invitations, Collaborator Activity tracking, Team Create Assets, Studio Reconnection, and Enhance Drafts.

Generative AI tools are being built by Roblox to scale creation efforts and help creators focus on what matters most. Material Generator and Code Assist, currently available in open beta, are examples of such tools that help creators build faster and augment their skills.

Avatars are an essential part of the Roblox experience, and the roadmap includes features that enable better avatar creation and self-expression. Upcoming enhancements include glTF File Support, Improved Avatar Face and Body Tooling, Bodies and Animated Faces creation for the UGC Program members and all creators, and a community-led Marketplace where creators can publish avatar items, including Limiteds.
