In the recent VR Chat update, a highly anticipated feature has been rolled out – Avatar Scaling. This tool lets users adjust the height of their avatar, enabling them to be taller, shorter, or match eye level with another user, facilitating face-to-face conversations. This feature can be accessed from the Action Menu under Expressions and Quick Actions.
It’s worth noting that this is a developing feature, with refinements and improvements expected in future updates. The Avatar Scaling tool is enabled by default in all virtual worlds but can be deactivated by the world’s authors either through Udon or a simple toggle on the VRChat website.
For world authors wishing to disable this feature, they need to log into the VRChat website, navigate to their uploaded world’s page, edit the world, click the Avatar Scaling toggle, and then save the changes. Additionally, they can employ Udon functions in their world to disable or customize the Avatar Scaling, allowing for more fine-tuning, including changing the permitted scaling range.
The update has rendered avatar scaling prefabs like GoGoLoco obsolete, as the inbuilt scaling systems now handle all scaling needs. This transition is a deliberate shift as part of the new update.
Another notable feature added in this update is a search function within the Settings tab. Users will now find a text input field in the top right corner of their Main Menu, enabling quicker navigation to the required settings.
The first release of VR Chat’s localization is also part of this update. The software’s Quick and Main Menus now support tooltips in multiple languages, including Korean, Spanish, French, and Italian, thanks to the efforts of the VR Chat community. Users can select their preferred language from the Main Menu.
Finally, the Quick Menu now closely mirrors the Main Menu in terms of layout and design, ensuring a more consistent user interface. This harmony between the two menus seeks to streamline the user experience and reduce confusion when switching between them.
