The new trailer makes a lot of promises, and hopefully the sequel will deliver. The Nickelodeon Kart Racer series has made very small improvements over time, although the devs have seemed content with mediocrity thus far.

It’s a shame, since the IP content itself is fantastic. The roster has found a decent size, including both niche and essential characters from Nickelodeon’s vast roster of beloved characters.

Unfortunately, the mechanics have serious issues. Unlocking new characters has been a hassle, with no direct paths to specific drivers. The driving is unusually stiff, and the gas button has been needlessly frustrating.

Then there’s the graphics, which have been decidedly sub-par in previous installments. But the new trailer does promise some better in-game visuals, which is a relief. Basics like voice acting would be nice, and seeing Nickelodeon’s familiar faces is always a welcome treat. For the devs, and most fans, that seems to be enough.

With just a bit more funding, this series could potentially compete with rivals like Team Sonic Racing, and it’s already ahead of more than a few indie kart games. Mario Kart has established the formula and necessities for success, so it’s strange that Nickelodeon won’t get more investment.

New courses and vehicles should be expected from any racing sequel. The reveals in the trailer look pretty solid, and the tracks seem to have struck a better balance with the slime concept. After a first look, fans can feel cautiously optimistic to find new standards that the first game in the series should’ve provided.
