Nintendo has just revealed that an all-new Indie World Showcase will premiere later this week on November 9th, 2022, at 9 AM pacific time. According to Nintendo’s official tweet, it’s expected to feature nearly half an hour of content about upcoming games:
Nintendo hasn’t had an Indie World Showcase since last May’s stream, so it’s a welcome surprise, although it’s a little strange that Nintendo waited until the last minute to advertise the event.
Like the games themselves, Indie World Showcases tend to be sorely overlooked. Some fans responded to today’s announcement with demands for lengthy directs about larger and popular titles, even though Nintendo just premiered a 45-minute direct last September. It teased Xenoblade Chronicles and gave the upcoming Legend of Zelda game an official title. You can review that direct here:
However, indie games deserve recognition too, and certainly need the spotlight more. If you’re feeling a little uninterested in the new IWS, consider that Cult of the Lamb was featured in the last one. Now, Cult of the Lamb is a massive hit, thanks to its brilliant sense of humor and clever twists on a familiar genre.
There’s been some speculation on what to expect from the next Indie World Showcase. To get an idea of what kind of games tend to show up, you can check out the last one from a few months ago:
Enough time has passed for a host of new indies to enter the scene, as they require more time to develop, but there will probably be more than a few ports as well. Most fans are clamoring for a Hollow Knight: Silksong release date, which has only been confirmed to land before June 2023.
