Omega Strikers, the upcoming hockey-style team sports game from developer and publisher Odyssey Interactive, just showed off an incredible new cinematic opening featuring Studio Trigger’s signature anime style.

Omega Strikers is slated to launch this week on April 27th, 2023. It will be available on PC, mobile devices, the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox. You can watch the full cinematic opening on the Nintendo YouTube channel:

Studio Trigger is no stranger to the gaming industry, following their highly praised animation for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an anime web series based on Cyberpunk 2077. However, today’s cinematic opening is far more hands-on, and it’s going to do wonders for the game.

Omega Strikers got a real leg up from Studio Trigger, who has provided their popular bold animation, creative spark, and authenticity. It’s an unexpected and highly satisfying match, with imagery that probably adds more action and characterization than the actual game can deliver. There is a constant sense of motion, energy, as well as hints of personal relationships.

Omega Strikers does offer a surprisingly wide variety of “strikers” though. There are enough unique abilities to encourage strategy, and they help distinguish the game from titles like Mario Strikers: Battle League, whose IP eclipses most competitors.

It’s likely that Omega Strikers will succeed on mobile devices best, given its streamlined and playful mechanics. The official Steam page adds that the game will support both cross-platform and cross-progression though, which is a big deal for any title.

Even as a free to play game, it would’ve been easy for a smaller game like Omega Strikers to be somewhat overlooked. But a massive fanbase, thrilled by classics like Kill la Kill, are surely paying attention now. If the gameplay can truly live up to the frenetic and inventive cinematic opening revealed today, it could be very worthwhile.
