The redemption arc of No Man’s Sky continues upward as developer Hello Games has just announced a new update coming to the game today, titled ‘Echoes.’ In this new update, players will be able to meet a new alien faction, engage in new freighter battles, see improved visuals on the Nintendo Switch and PSVR2, and much more.

Sean Murray was the first to make the announcement via Twitter before the patch notes for the update went live. In typical fashion, he had been teasing the new update in recent days by reminiscing over the time since No Man’s Sky first launched in 2016. Now the new update has been revealed and players can expect it to go live on Steam the next time they relaunch the application.

A new mechanical race has found itself among the citizens of the universe, with the Autophage deciding to make itself known. This ancient race of robotic beings has been forced to scrap together what materials it could find to make repairs. This has led to more shabby appearances than other robotic travelers in the galaxy, although they do vary more in size and dress.

Players will be sent on a quest, if they choose, to try and befriend the new alien race through hours of new narrative content added in this update. Not only will the player characters help regain the Autophage’s trust, but they will also understand where they come from and new questions about the No Man’s Sky universe.

There are new additions to how players do combat as well, with new major Outlaw ships that will provide greater battles as players try to defend merchants and save civilian lives. Players can also finally get rid of the Multitools clogging their bank, instead recycling them to provide unique upgrades and materials used for crafting.

There is also a range of other updates that add a new expedition, trench runs in the pirate freighters, holograms that will allow you to create a museum, and much more. Check the patch notes linked above for all the changes and new content coming to No Man’s Sky.
