Hello Games just dropped a big update for No Man’s Sky called Orbital. This update brings a major revamp to one of the game’s main parts – space stations. Those stations have pretty much looked the same since the game started, but now they’re getting bigger and more important to the No Man’s Sky adventure.
According to an Xbox Wire blog post by Shaun Murray, Founder of Hello Games, players will first notice the much larger space stations. They now have procedurally generated insides and outsides, making them feel much bigger and unique. The new interiors give players more to explore, and the different layouts will keep things interesting.
Orbital has been updated with a new look and additional features, including interactions and gameplay elements within space stations. Players will now come across envoys from the Merchant, Mercenary, and Explorer guilds. By building a good reputation with these guilds through donating artifacts and resources, travelers can earn rewards like rare items, discounted supplies, and powerful equipment upgrades.
“One of the new additions to the space station map which Travellers will no doubt race towards is the Ship Fabricator. For a while now, players have dreamed of the ability to create their own starships in their dream configuration. This new function enables you to combine parts of salvaged ships together in a near-limitless array of permutations to create brand new form factors. You may still need to scour the universe for that perfect S-Class though!”

The Orbital update brings a highly requested feature: ship customization. With the new Ship Fabricator, players can now merge parts from old ships to craft completely new starship setups. This allows players to design their perfect ship, though discovering components will still take exploration and commitment.
The latest update includes improvements to the frigate fleet management. Now, when frigates are sent on expeditions, they can initiate Intervention Events. We don’t know much about exactly what these are, but it’s great to feel more like an admiral than just a small ship captain.
