Overpass 2, an upcoming off-road racing adventure from developer Neopica and publisher Nacon, will officially launch on October 19th, 2023. It will feature the return of Career mode, new vehicles and environments, enhanced physics and more.

Overpass 2 will be available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as next-gen consoles for PlayStation and Xbox users. You can watch the full reveal trailer on Nacon’s YouTube channel:

The original Overpass only just launched in 2021, so it seems that a sequel was fast-tracked. However, that comes as a surprise, given that Overpass has maintained very mixed reviews.

Fans largely had issues with the driving physics, which is the defining mechanic for any racing game. But realistic off-roading was intended to be the distinguishing feature of Overpass, so the physics had a more noticeable impact.

Today’s trailer description carefully notes that there will be “enhanced physics” this time around. But that would apply to any racing sequel and may not be a direct response to fan feedback about the divisive controls.

Nacon’s frequent collaborator Neopica replaces Zordix Racing as the developer for the sequel. But Neopica is mostly known for the Hunting Simulator series and a variety of kid-friendly titles.

Neopica’s only history with the racing genre is FIA European Truck Championship. Sadly, that game also received some lackluster reviews, so a new team may not necessarily guarantee a superior sequel. A lot of criticism has focused on the visuals though, and Overpass 2’s reveal trailer already looks gorgeous, even with only brief glimpses of gameplay.

Overpass 2 seems like a very pragmatic sequel. It isn’t overly ambitious, with fewer environments and tracks, and only a handful of new vehicles. It’s very possible the game has focused on performance, which would definitely be terrific course correct.
