One Piece Odyssey, an upcoming adventure RPG based on the hit series, has just released a new video message from producer Katsuaki Tsuzuki. They mainly elaborate on what differences fans should expect between the demo and the full game.

Tsuzuki also announced that one more pre-launch trailer will be released. This would have to be very soon, since the free demo is scheduled to launch on January 10th, 2023, followed by a full launch on January 13th, 2023.

One Piece Odyssey will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. It will arrive a day early on Steam, January 12th, 2023. Here’s the full message from Katsuaki Tsuzuki and publisher Bandai Namco:

One Piece Odyssey has some considerably high expectations to live up to. It has to justify the lengthy development process. So, gaming fans will expect a very smooth launch, and a comprehensive experience with quality-of-life features that compare to the latest RPGs.

One Piece Odyssey also has to please fans of the show. Using the IP of the beloved series is the point of the game. There needs to be a genuine sense of immersion, and that can only be achieved through painstaking authenticity, as well as a level of creativity and joy that matches the tone of the show.

It seems like the free demo is meant to introduce players to the game more gently. Tsuzuki explains that players will have access to the first couple of hours from the main game. Fans who complete the demo will also get to transfer their progress to the full game, which is especially useful so close to the actual launch.

Lastly, Tsuzuki revealed that the demo is “cut from the beginning of the main game”, but it won’t include all of the potential features, and Alabasta and Water Seven won’t be available until after the demo.
