The Roblox “oof sound” is one of the most iconic and well-known on the platform. Even people who have never played a game on Roblox are familiar with it. Unfortunately, it was apparently not owned by Roblox and the property of a video game music composer by the name of Tommy Tallarico. While it seemed like things had been resolved by the two parties, it looks like that might no longer be the case.

Believe it or not, the oof sound was originally in another video game known as Messiah, which played the sound near the end of the game in a cinematic. The dispute between the Tommy and Roblox appeared to be settled, with Tommy creating sound kits that included the oof sound.

As of July 26th, 2022, the oof sound has now been officially removed from the game a new default sound has been added according to the official Roblox Twitter account:

Related to sounds, due to a licensing issue we have removed the “oof” sound from Roblox and have created a replacement default sound which launches today.

We plan to expand our Avatar Shop with a whole range of both old and new sounds in the future. More to come on this.

A new sound has replaced the oof sound, which you can listen to below.

As an additional announcement, it looks like Roblox is going to be working to add better customization and the ability to add sounds directly by getting them from the creators and licensors according to a Tweet from their official account on Twitter.

Our roadmap includes the ability to add sounds by getting them directly from the creators and licensors. Users will also be able to customize sounds for their avatars in the same way they customize clothing.

It is unfortunate that oof is gone for now, but hopefully something can possibly be worked out in the future to make the situation amicable to all parties involved.
