Under a Rock, an upcoming open world survival and crafting game from developer and publisher Nordic Trolls, showed off several different creature mounts in a new teaser today. There is still no release window, but it’s expected to launch into Early Access for a full year. It will be available on PC via Steam. Nordic Trolls is a genuine indie studio with just a few creatives at work, but you may already know them for Karnage Chronicles. The VR RPG released in 2020 and was widely praised for its unusually polished visuals and inventive puzzles.
Under a Rock continues to showcase the devs’ aesthetic prowess, openly acknowledging Pixar as an inspiration. The most recent trailer revealed the devs’ Unreal Engine 5.1 Update for Under a Rock:
Not only does Under a Rock offer a procedurally generated world, but you’ll be able to explore it with at least 10 other players in coop mode. According to the game’s Steam page, the devs are even working on a way for players to push that count above 10.
There is no doubt that Under a Rock has style to spare, with a gorgeous art design that truly captures the spirit of Pixar and adventure. The entire world is colorful and cozy, from the environments to the creatures. And it is the creatures that leap out in the UE trailer, with imaginative designs and distinct personalities, both in their appearance and behavior.
That’s why today’s new teaser for the mounts is so rewarding. It shows off even more creatures, and discovering new mounts in Under a Rock would be fun enough to make its own game. They each have their own movement and textures. It would be wise to pay attention to these promising devs.
