Independent developer Pocketpair has finally revealed the official release date for the Early Access of their highly anticipated monster-taming and survival game, Palworld. Fans now know that the game is coming on January 19, 2023. The newly released trailer doesn’t give much away on what will happen, but it at least tells us that much.
The trailer offers glimpses of the diverse gameplay experiences waiting in Palworld. Players are shown soaring through the air on the backs of majestic creatures, engaging in thrilling capture sequences with wild “Pals,” and building their own settlements amidst the vibrant and often strange landscapes. However, the trailer also hints at a darker side to Palworld, with scenes depicting poachers ruthlessly hunting these same Pals.
This suggests a deeper ethical quandary woven into the fabric of the game. While specific details remain under wraps, the trailer effectively conveys the core pillars of Palworld’s gameplay: befriending and training eccentric creatures, crafting and building intricate structures, and exploring a world brimming with both beauty and potential danger.
This doesn’t mean you can’t be the danger yourself. Peaceful coexistence with nature is only one option because players can engage in more exploitative practices. This is good because even Stardew Valley lets you choose whether to help Jojamart or the town.
I am a proud JojaMart member, and I am definitely going to start Team Rocket in Palworld. Still, there is a lot of shakey trust toward indie games since The Day Before crashed, burned, and tried to get away with a ton of money. We’ll see how this plays out, but we wouldn’t blame anyone for being apprehensive about buying a game from an indie dev right now.
So, whether or not you’re looking to buy the game, check out the trailer above. It’s worth seeing how far the game has come since it was first announced.
