Payday 3 is designed as a co-op game that truly shines when played with a close-knit group of friends. To ensure this optimal experience, creating a Private Lobby is recommended. This prevents the matchmaking system from adding random players to your game.

We all know the frustration of a well-planned heist being disrupted by unfamiliar players. Fortunately, setting up a Private Lobby in Payday 3 is straightforward. If you’re unsure about the process, here’s our guide on how to make a private lobby in Payday 3.

How to Make a Private Lobby in Payday 3

First things first, at the time of writing this Payday 3 guide, only PC players have the option to create a private lobby. According to a Reddit post, console players, especially the PlayStation, currently do not have the option to play with only their friends in a Payday 3 private lobby since the wrong version of the co-op title was released or is not being synced with other platforms, confirmed in a tweet by the PAYDAYGame Twitter/X account. A patch is being rolled out on consoles to fix this, but you have to wait until this happens.

If you are playing on Payday 3 on PC, creating a private lobby is pretty straightforward. Select the Heist you want to play, choose the difficulty, then click the arrow where it says Lobby Type Public, and change this to Friends Only or Invite Only. This will make it so only friends can join or only people who you invite can join. No random person can enter your Payday 3 lobby with either of these options selected.

Once Payday 3 on PS5 and other console versions get patched, I believe the options to make a private lobby will be the same as the PC steps above.

I will also say that you can play with a group of three friends or less, but Payday 3 has to have four players, meaning a bot will play as the missing characters. Bots aren’t the best, but they won’t randomly shoot innocent civilians and mess up your entire heist strategy, well, in my experience, at least. But then you watch a YouTube video like this where bots are standing around as you’re getting kicked to death, and well, pray bots can improve.
