Coatsink, an indie developer behind titles like Jurassic World Aftermath and PHOGS!, has officially partnered with Great North Museum: Hancock for a museum exhibition. It will be a “fantasy adventure experience”, and “part immersive story, part live-action game” according to a new tweet.
The exhibition, titled Myth Quest: Monsters and Mortals will open on March 25th, 2023. Here’s the full announcement from the museum’s official Twitter feed:
It is always a welcome surprise when the gaming industry reaches the community in some special way. Naturally, Myth Quest: Monsters and Mortals will mostly be reserved for locals to enjoy, but it does serve as a compelling example of how much more gaming can offer. And hopefully, it’ll encourage other developers and publishers to engage in refreshing ways, too.
Myth Quest: Monsters and Mortals also seems like strictly educational fare, which should be expected. Anything academic is probably expected to have some kind of corny undertone. But Coatsink has proven themselves to be very imaginative, and any partnership with them is the sign of a rewarding experience.
For reference, their indie game PHOGS! remains one of the most charming and inventive little puzzle games on the market, with some elements of platforming.
But it also allows for some innovative teamwork in coop mode, where each player controls one head of a double-ended pooch. The art design is friendly and positively adorable, the mechanics are clever. The physics are compelling, and they allow for a lot of hilarious interactions.
Coatsink has also done a fine job with the Jurassic World IP, which is no small task. Most fans were pleased with the level of tension, and overall feel of the environments or mechanics. Coatsink continues to evolve, and hopefully fans will get to see more fascinating partnerships like this.
