PixelJunk Eden 2, the psychedelic and cozy platforming adventure from developer and publisher Q-Games, has just released a new gameplay trailer announcing ports for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
Although an exact release date has not been confirmed, today’s PlayStation blog post states that the new ports should both be expected “later this year”. A PC version also appears to be in the works, as the Q-Games page links to an official Steam page.
PixelJunk Eden 2 originally launched in 2020 and is available now on the Nintendo Switch. You can watch today’s new port announcement trailer on the PlayStation YouTube channel:
The PixelJunk series debuted on the PlayStation 3, so it was always a surprise that PixelJunk Eden 2 didn’t continue on the flagship platform.
Now that it’s finally going to support the latest PlayStation consoles, the PS5 version plans to make full use of 4K imagery and DualSense interactions. That is definitely going to distinguish this game from the Switch version, which was already plenty of fun, especially on the go. After all, the main attraction of PixelJunk Eden 2 is its striking and immersive visuals.
The art design of the entire PixelJunk series is consistently mesmerizing and inventive. There’s a constant sense of motion, both in the environments and gameplay. The stages are full of totally unconventional platforms and objects. It’s all thanks to an inspired premise, where players must cultivate plants as mysterious and adorable Grimps.
PixelJunk Eden 2 may have relatively simple mechanics, but it is highly potent and accessible. Besides, the game intentionally creates a relaxing experience with its rhythmic platforming, balanced difficulty, and engaging artwork. First and foremost, it also remembers to be a fun game.
