While most gamers are eager for the latest releases, there are communities that are just as excited when a classic title gets a new port that makes it more readily available. A new video from a known Sony content creator may hint at some insider knowledge about a new official PlayStation 2 emulator in the works.

This information comes from PlayStation content creator Mystic on YouTube in a video discussing Sony’s recent attempts at bringing classic titles to the PS5. YouTuber Mystic states that he has it on “good authority” that Sony is actively working on a PlayStation 2 emulator to help bring more titles from that console generation to the current platform. Mystic begins discussing it at around 2:50 in the video.

According to what Mystic has allegedly heard, Sony is making headway but isn’t ready to launch or even announce it. There are apparently few major titles set to release alongside the emulator, something the YouTuber questions, and that could be why it hasn’t been announced. That’s all he really states before moving on to how third parties seem reluctant to add older-generation games to the service.

This is just a rumor for now, but it would follow the push from Sony to revisit classic titles and port them to the PlayStation 5, just like it did with the launch of the new PS+ program.
