PlayStation has been very effective in providing thoughtful and convenient accessibility options. Earlier this month, PlayStation announced a December release date for a remarkable new access controller, which is highly versatile and just as stylish as any controller.

Today’s beta will allow players to assign a second controller as an assist controller, and turn on haptic feedback while navigating the console UI.

Most of the quality-of-life changes are relatively small but overdue, like searching for games in your library or sending group invites. Adjusting the PS5’s beep sound will certainly be a relief.

However, even more so than new 3D audio, the biggest highlight in today’s Beta is likely the increased SSD support. Players will now be able to use an “M.2 SSD with a maximum capacity of 8TB”, which would impressively double the previous limit.

Naturally, the SSDs still need to meet certain requirements. But this could go a long way for convenient gaming. Storage is one of the larger issues in the industry, and the PlayStation 5 digital version is cheaper than the disc-supporting version. So, fans are more likely to own a PlayStation console that desperately needs more storage, to keep all the favorite titles downloaded and ready to go.

Also, a lot of new players have probably invested in PlayStation because of the upcoming Spider-Man 2 console, which was first revealed at San Diego Comic Con and made headlines with its pre-orders.
