A reimagining of the classic Sega arcade game, Cosmic Smash, is set to be released as C-Smash VRS for PlayStation VR2.
In 2001, the Cosmic Smash arcade game was released for the Sega NAOMI arcade system and was later ported to the Dreamcast console. It is a single-player game that features a futuristic combination of squash and Breakout, set in a refreshingly minimalist environment.
Recently, PlayStation announced that a reimagining of Cosmic Smash for the PlayStation VR2, called C-Smash VRS, is set to launch soon. C-Smash VRS is built from the ground up by RapidEyeMovers and Wolf & Wood as well as an international team of artists, designers, and musicians, all committed to transforming the classic arcade game into a full-body immersion experience. Take a look at the C-Smash VRS – Announcement Trailer, courtesy of PlayStation’s official Youtube channel:
According to Jörg Tittel, Director at RapidEyeMovers, VRS stands for VR and Versus. It combines the most enjoyable aspects of a variety of racket sports, such as squash, tennis, racket, paddle ball, and more, with those of other athletic disciplines to provide an exceptional physically challenging experience. Players have the option of competing against another C-Smash VRS player online or taking part in a solo training mode.
C-Smash VRS also features original tracks from DJ Ken Ishii (Rez Infinite) and Danalogue (The Comet is Coming, Soccer 96). C-Smash VRS also allows the avatar’s body and dynamic environments to pulse to the beat, providing a pure synaesthesia feeling. Players will certainly enjoy a total mind and body experience with all of the features of C-Smash VRS.
A C-Smash VRS demo is set to be released on March 23rd to provide an in-depth look at some of its major features. You may also add C-Smash VRS to your PlayStation Store wishlist now to be notified when it releases.
