Humanity, an upcoming puzzle platformer from developer tha ltd. and publisher Enhance Games, will officially launch on May 16th, 2023. It will be available on PC via Steam, or current and last-gen PlayStation Consoles, including support for either the PS VR or the PS VR2. You can watch the full launch date trailer on the PlayStation YouTube channel:
Today’s announcement trailer is overwhelming, to say the least. It’s an extraordinary time capsule of a bygone advertisement era, wielding strange humor and surprise with some incredible performances. The VHS tape emulation at the beginning is the perfect way to prepare viewers for a very different experience from the reveal trailer.
Although today’s footage was nearly as informative, you can watch a straightforward and gameplay-driven reveal trailer on the PlayStation YouTube channel too:
It’s tough to live up to the expectations set by the chaos of today’s release date trailer, which is bizarre and nostalgic in all of the right ways. But Humanity does seem quirky and creative enough, especially for a VR game. Exploring this world virtually will probably result in better surrealism and twists.
Also, the addition of community creations is really going to give this game legs. The tone and flexible systems in place should inspire players to develop odd puzzles, browse, and support each other.
The campaign itself will include over 90 stages to complete, which is pretty impressive. Somehow, Humanity simultaneously feels like a lost PlayStation classic and one of their most ambitious puzzle games yet. Despite all of the content and elaborate mechanics, it maintains an indie attitude, including nuanced and symbolic visuals.
Even casual fans are likely to be charmed by today’s trailer, so hopefully PlayStation invests some more in bold advertisement like this.
