On the PlayStation Plus official web page, their three packages include PlayStation Plus Essential, PlayStation Plus Extra, and PlayStation Plus Premium. Sony recently communicated with developers about its plans for timed game trials for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers.
PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers are said to receive everything in the previous packages plus time-limited game trials, classic PlayStation games from the Classics Catalog, and cloud streaming to play the hundreds of games from each catalog without waiting for downloads.
Developers working on games that cost $34 or more are now required to create time-limited trial versions of their games. Developers whose games are below $34 are not required to develop limited-time trials. This is part of a new policy that offers more content and value for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers. This new policy, however, does not apply to VR games.
Developers must now consider this policy when planning to launch on PlayStation. As two hours can be a sizeable chunk of game time, developers can choose what the free trial entails. They may select a part of the significant storyline, side story, extra content, or special event.
Game trials may be challenging for developers, but they allow subscribers to test out various games that they may not have otherwise downloaded in the past. It’s an excellent incentive for those considering a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.
Sony may consider the introduction of custom game demos, similar to how they were done in the past. They will only approve these individually and after evaluation. Besides the two-hour game trial, Developers are still free to perform other promotional offers, including free weekends, game trials, or custom demos that all PlayStation owners can access.
Games over $34 will now offer a free two-hour trial to PlayStation Plus Premium members. The PlayStation Plus plans will launch on June 13, 2022. Be sure to check out our section on PlayStation Plus for more great content!
