PlayStation has released a brand-new blog elaborating on key details for VR Skater, a highly immersive new skating game from developer and publisher DEFICIT Games. The post explains more customization options, how PlayStation tech will be incorporated, and the classic Mega Ramp.
VR Skater still doesn’t have a PlayStation release date, but it’s expected to launch on the PS VR2 this Summer. The game is currently available in Early Access on PC, but it still requires a VR headset. Here’s the full blog post announcement from the PlayStation Twitter feed:
The Mega Ramp was naturally used as a teaser for the blog post, since it’s very familiar and should definitely please longtime skating fans.
The airtime from a Mega Ramp is going to allow players to perform some very unique tricks, which would otherwise be very difficult to find room for. That’s especially true for VR Skater, which attempts to ground things just a little more than some of the classics like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater.
Today’s PlayStation post also explains how adaptive triggers will be used to adjust tension, which sounds terrific in theory. If the mechanic falters, it could make the entire game feel a little uneasy, since there’s a very unique kind of sensitivity and control in real life. But it is an ambitious feature, and fans should enjoy learning how to use their hands as feet.
Another big announcement was the Print Tablet feature. The post explains that players can “upload custom textures”, though it’s unclear just how flexible that will be. At the very least, you can earn new in-game decks, trucks, wheels, and grip tapes.
Customizing your board plays a large role in skating culture. The board is an extension of yourself, so the freedom to display your personality should be equally important in a game that’s aiming for as much authenticity as possible.
