Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has surprised fans today with a free 20th anniversary pack, a retrospective of the franchise, and announcements for more Ratchet & Clank games that are coming to Premium members of PlayStation Plus on November 15th, 2022.
The anniversary pack includes Marauder, Quest, Holoflux, Commando and Clank armor, celebrating previous titles in the series. The upcoming Premium games include the PS3’s Ratchet & Clank, Going Commando, Up Your Arsenal, Deadlocked, and Tools of Destruction.
Twenty years of Ratchet & Clank have officially gone by, and the series is still going strong after last year’s Rift Apart made a big comeback and received generally positive reviews.
The nostalgia is strong with PlayStation’s surprise anniversary pack for Rift Apart, which includes some pretty detailed nods to past titles, including a couple of fan favorites. An in-game event, or an announcement concerning the future of the franchise would’ve been nice. But the armor pack is a nice gesture, totally free, and certainly better than nothing.
Rift Apart proved that the series still has plenty to offer, and hopefully, the host of previous installments will renew interest in the franchise this month. It’ll add up to 10 Ratchet & Clank games total on the premium service.
Unfortunately, PlayStation’s official post carefully notes that availability could be affected by region. That’s due to the cloud streaming, which is more restrictive than usual, but required for the PS5 to run games from the PS3. As a result, the majority of fans justifiably responded with demands for remastered games instead. Sadly, there’s no word on that.
The retrospective is a fun read too, with a few brief quotes from developer Insomniac Games, including the President and other heads of key departments.
