Gamedec, the indie point-and-click detective adventure from last year, has just gotten a new trailer for an upcoming PlayStation port. Currently, the game is only available on PC and the Nintendo Switch. A release date for the PlayStation version wasn’t announced with the trailer, but it does promise that the Definitive edition of Gamedec is “coming soon”:
This is a big win for developer and publisher Anshar, who are probably best known for their Virtual Reality games Telefrag and Detached. Hopefully, the devs will be able to use this momentum and encouragement from the Steam reviews to continue venturing into new ground.
Adding Gamedec to the Nintendo Switch was probably smoother, in terms of gameplay, though. The Switch is naturally mobile, which is more accessible for the genre. Point-and-click games rarely perform so well on consoles, even if they aren’t quite so dense. Aside from technical problems, expectations are simply too different from casual console fans.
Gamedec has received a lot of warm responses from fans of the story though, which is crucial for point-and-click games, since dialogue-based decisions will make up the majority of your gameplay. The voice acting is solid, and the setting has a strong sense of lore with fine art design. Elements like this could potentially make the game more accessible for the PlayStation crowd.
Ideally, Gamedec will be able to join the PS Plus lineup sometime in the future. Much like the Xbox Game Pass, subscription services breathe new life into smaller or forgotten games. Unfortunately, the Nintendo Switch Online service hardly has the same effect. With less risk, RPG fans will be more likely to check this one out, and Anshar Studios probably deserves the chance to continue down this development path.
