PlayStation has just announced that they will host a livestream on their official YouTube channel this Friday, December 9th, 2022, showing off 11 minutes of Forspoken with new footage. Forspoken will launch on PC and PlayStation 5 on January 24th, 2023, and pre-orders are available now. PlayStation’s big livestream will begin at 10 AM pacific time, according to the official tweet:
Forspoken has drawn a lot of division among PlayStation fans, who remain totally uncertain about what to expect. All existing footage of the game has struggled to break the overall sense of generic storytelling and mechanics, and skeptics have been very vocal. So, hopefully the upcoming livestream will elaborate on some of the details that have left fans disappointed.
But despite some loud rejections, the majority of PlayStation users and casual gamers haven’t really been swayed, and will surely tune in, at the very least out of curiosity. Forspoken hasn’t exactly seemed to do anything wrong, boasting some decent graphics, fine level design, and promising parkour. But it hasn’t done anything too exciting either, so every update on the game has become more crucial.
Though it doesn’t feel like it, Forspoken will actually launch next month now, so this livestream will likely be one of the last opportunities to build hype without simply spoiling too much.
It’s a fine line to walk, and it’s important for PlayStation to consider how much is worth revealing, in some attempt to change minds that are already made up. Ideally, there won’t be too many more trailers, if any. Just over the last week, socials have already revealed a parade of details, including a variety of spells and enemies:
It’s a little unfortunate that Forspoken is intended to be some kind of flagship game, since it hasn’t generated the buzz necessary to compare with other PlayStation exclusives. Forspoken has promise, and hopefully it turns out to be sorely underrated.
