Pokémon revealed the time and place for an update on Scarlet and Violet, including a trailer and more on the official Pokémon YouTube channel.
Here’s the official tweet, which reveals that fans can tune in on June 1st, 6 AM pacific time to check out the news:
After the wide success of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which took the franchise in a completely new direction, fans are curious about what gameplay mechanics and features might carry over into versions set in the current timeline.
For example, the heavy research was somewhat divisive, where players needed to catch the same Pokémon many times over. It also made shiny Pokémon less rare overall, increasing encounter rates for completed research.
But many mechanics were quickly beloved, such as the introduction of intense boss battles and smooth overworld encounters. The crafting and other RPG elements were a big success.
There has already been an announcement trailer for Scarlet and Violet, released back in February 2022, which strangely used live action. But it also showed off the art style and Pokémon that players can expect, and you can watch that full trailer again here:
While Arceus was basically one giant Wild Area, the new game is a return to more traditional worldbuilding with new urban areas to explore.
However, Arceus mainly involved different groups arguing over how to treat Pokémon, as opposed to the typical journey to championship through various gym leaders.
Hopefully, Scarlet and Violet can find a way to take creative risks too, while keeping the mechanics that worked in Arceus. Players can probably expect to learn a bit more about the region of their upcoming adventures, as well as a couple of the heroes and antagonists.
There will be a combination of new and classic Pokémon, as usual, and fans are already excited about the new starters. Surely, new and returning Pokémon will be a highlight of tomorrow’s announcement, and some region-specific designs could be fun.
