Pokémon Go announces all of the Pokémon available in their new Air Adventures event!

Pokémon Go has just revealed that some classic Pokémon will show up for the brand-new “Air Adventures” event, including Pikachu and Mega forms of Latias and Latios. The event is now scheduled to run from May 3rd to May 8th, 2022.

The official tweet showcases all three Pokémon flying through the air together:

This is a fun throwback to old school Pokémon, especially for Pikachu. Letting Pikachu soar along with a bunch of balloons is a reference to the Pokémon Yellow opening montage (where Pikachu also took up surfing).

Meanwhile, Latios and Latias were introduced later on in Generation III. Their Mega forms definitely resemble jet airplanes, so it seems the event took itself quite literally.

Pokémon Go’s official website explains that Latias will know the move Mist Ball. It has 120 power and may lower the opponent’s attack, but it’ll have 105 power in Gyms and Raids.

Latios will instead know Luster Purge, the signature move of these iconic Pokémon. It also has 120 power, but may lowers defense rather than attack, so its Gym and Raid value is only 100 for balance. Both Mist Ball and Luster Purge are charged attacks though, so be strategic.

Other Pokémon in Air Adventures

It’s always fun to see the older games get some love, and fans are still hoping that Nintendo’s online subscription service will introduce them to newer audiences.

Common Pokémon that you may encounter during the “Air Adventures” event include Jigglypuff, Meowth, Psyduck, Doduo, Magikarp, Wingull, Swablu and Drifloon. The rares are Charizard or Mantine.

In total, this means that all but one of the Pokémon originate from Gen III or earlier. This event is another example of how Pokémon Go successfully celebrates the history of the franchise (and understands fan service).

However, some players have been frustrated with how short the events last, especially for a mobile game that requires a bit of travel.
