One of the main attractions to hardcore Pokemon fans is collecting their favorite shinies! These are Pokemon that appear in a different coloration than their usual look, but spawn very infrequently. However, there are different ways you can vastly improve your ability to find them! If you’re wondering how best to find shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Arceus (PLA), we will teach you how in this guide.
Shiny Guide
To greatly increase your chances of getting Shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, you will need to get perfect research on the Pokemon you want to catch as shiny, obtain the Shiny Charm, and look for Mass Outbreaks of the Pokemon.
According to Anubis on Twitter, the increase in shiny spawn rolls for each method is as follows:
- Base Shiny Rate – 1 Roll
- Dex Research Level 10 – 1 Extra Roll
- Dex Research Perfect – 2 Extra Rolls
- Shiny Charm – 3 Extra Rolls
- Mass Outbreak – 25 Extra Rolls
When a Pokemon spawns there is a 1 in 4096 chance for it to roll as a shiny with no additional buffs. Each additional roll increases the chances of one spawning. If you combine all of the buffs together with the base chance, you will have a 32 in 4096 chance.
Mass Outbreaks
When exiting out of Jubilee Village, you will be alerted when there are mass outbreaks of Pokemon. You can then view your map where an icon of the Pokemon experiencing a mass outbreak will appear. Travel to the area and then open the local map up to find the Pokemon icon which is where the mass outbreak will be located.

The mass outbreaks spawn around four Pokemon at a time. Each time you catch one, a new one will spawn. Keep catching them until you get a message on the screen that tells you the reported Pokemon have gone. These outbreaks give you a chance to cycle through a bunch of Pokemon giving you a greater chance of catching a shiny. Mass outbreaks in general have a very high increase to spawning shiny Pokemon. These are the absolute best way to catch shinies!

Research Levels
Research levels can be upgraded for each and every Pokemon in the game. You will need to do tasks based around these Pokemon a certain amount of times. Each one you complete will earn you investigation points towards the research level of that Pokemon. These tasks include:
- Number Caught
- Number defeated
- Times you’ve seen certain moves
- Times you’ve scared it off
- Number you’ve evolved
- and more…

To get a perfect research level for the Pokemon, you will need to complete all of the tasks listed. This would be worthwhile if you really want a particular Pokemon, but doing it for all of the Pokemon in the game is a tall order.
Shiny Charm
The Shiny Charm is well-known in Pokemon, and usually requires that you complete your PokeDex in the game. For Pokemon Legends Arceus, you will need to get Research Rank 10 with all 242 Pokemon. This will take a while because you will need to complete tasks for each of the Pokemon to upgrade the rank.
While the Shiny Charm is nice to have it is probably not worth it in the long run. Mass outbreaks are a very high boost to shiny spawns, and are significantly more than the charm. You might just be better off skipping the charm and focusing all of your attention on outbreaks.
Shiny Pokemon General Tips
One thing to note about Pokemon Arceus is that shiny Pokemon appear in the overworld. This has never been the case before to my knowledge, and was surprisingly absent from Pokemon Sword and Shield.
IF you see a shiny Pokemon, one important thing to do is to save your game immediately. If you for some reason miss out on catching the shiny, you can then restart your game and you will find the Pokemon waiting for you where it was before. This will give you another chance to catch it! You will need to turn off auto-save in the settings to get this to work properly.
Shiny Pokemon will make a sound when they appear! It is pretty obvious when it happens, but you might want to look it up on YouTube so you recognize it immediately in game.
According to Anubis again, all static encounters with Pokemon are shiny-locked. This means none of your starter Pokemon can be shiny, and any scripted encounters can’t be shiny either! Don’t bother restarting your game a bunch just to get your starter as a shiny!
That’s just about everything you need to know to catch yourself some shiny Pokemon in the game! If you want more information on a variety of different topic, you can find them in the Pokemon Legends: Arceus section of our website.
