Nintendo has released yet another trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, which concisely recaps the setting and fundamental mechanics of the game. There are a couple glimpses of new material, including gym leaders, the in-game camera app, Pokémon baths, and smaller details that were overlooked in past trailers. It’s a little surprising that Pokémon decided to release another trailer, just days ahead of launch. And it would have been nice if there were a little more substance here, but it’s the nature of an overview. Besides, between the barrage of leaks and official trailers, there’s little left to reveal.
Fans who are interested in purchasing the game are probably already sold, so an overview feels obligatory. It seems unlikely that anyone could have missed all of the preceding trailers, and would actually need a summary.
The “More Ways to Play” section of the trailer has some interesting tidbits. Besides the look at Azurill, it’s nice to see there will be camera filters, poses, and the ability to flip your camera. Customizing your ID is pretty arbitrary, but hopefully you can flaunt your favorite Pokémon in multiplayer.
The beauty salon also promises to add many more options than Sword and Shield, which felt pretty limited. For example, despite the variety of outfits, many of them were simple recolors of the same design. Ideally, the color palette icon seen in today’s trailer will include an equal share of variety.
Bathing your Pokémon is definitely a fun addition to Picnics, as it’s an absolute reality for most pets in real life. It’s a cute way to offer players another way to forge bonds with their Pokémon, which was basically reserved to beauty contests and berries in the older gens.
