PokerStars VR, the free to play virtual poker simulator from developer Lucky VR Inc. and publisher The Stars Group Inc. is finally going to be ported to PlayStation’s PS VR2. Today’s trailer did not confirm an exact release date for the port, nor has the developer.

PokerStars VR originally launched into Early Access in 2018, and it’s available now on PC via Steam VR or Oculus. You can watch the full announcement trailer on the PlayStation YouTube channel:

PokerStars VR has received a lot of high praise as the ideal, casual version of casino gaming. Even when the gameplay itself may not be totally authentic, it’s still unusually tidy and captures the ebb and flow without the tension of playing for real money. Every trailer has carefully stressed how much PokerStars VR is not a gambling product.

Poker enthusiasts who might be dismayed by some of the numbers in-game should at least enjoy the social aspects of this game. There are just enough mechanics that allow you to interact with each other, as well as playful objects that help distinguish the game from anything too serious.

It definitely helps that the game is free to play, making it an easy party game to pick up for a few rounds and then set aside between titles or chores. However, that free price tag can sometimes disrupt gameplay. Some fans have noted that it can be very uninteresting when younger players and uninvested newcomers don’t actually play sensibly.

It’s nice to see that PokerStars VR is coming to PlayStation, which has a unique and large community. The game should translate just fine to the PS VR2, and will probably benefit from its technology.
