Scarf, the puzzle-driven 3D platformer set across different fantasy worlds from developer Uprising Studios and publisher HandyGames, will officially be ported to consoles next week on June 6th, 2023. It will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. There is currently no word on a Nintendo Switch port.
Scarf originally launched in December 2021, and is available on PC now. It is currently on sale via Steam to celebrate the console trailer. You can watch today’s new console announcement teaser on the HandyGames YouTube channel:
Wider audiences should respond pretty well to Scarf. Retro platformers that harken back to the 90’s and early 2000’s are currently trending, with the likes of Clive ‘n’ Wrench or Solarpunk action-platformer Protodroid DeLTA, the latter of which we just reviewed last week.
It was a simpler age of platformers, where the right theme and an adorable mascot with a sidekick could be enough, although the standouts each had some unique twist on traditional mechanics. Scarf doesn’t really aim to revolutionize anything, and is more interested in the spirit of exploration.
And although it may be a throwback to many familiar platformers, it boasts more than enough visual ingenuity to keep the adventure engaging and distinguishable.
The sheer variety of worlds are bubbling with life and feature vibrant scenery. Given the simpler mechanics, casual puzzles, and straightforward gameplay loop, Scarf is a cute and easygoing game that will definitely benefit from a console port.
It would certainly be nice to see this on either of PlayStation or Xbox’s subscription services, as lighthearted little games like this tend to thrive on such risk-free gaming. Scarf certainly deserves the interest and support.
