Tray Racers!, an upcoming free to play racing indie from developer and publisher Bit Loom, has released a new gameplay trailer revealing it will launch on April 13th, 2023. It will be available on PC via Steam and the Nintendo Switch, with no word on plans for other consoles. You can watch the full release date trailer on the official Bit Loom YouTube channel:
Tray Racers! was developed by the same team behind PHOGS!, a delightful puzzle game that remains one of the best cooperative surprises in the genre. It runs away with a very simple premise, leading players through fascinating dream worlds that were brimming with creativity and some of the cutest characters you’ve ever seen.
That same fanciful, youthful spirit lives on in Tray Racers!, though it’s clearly far simpler and swifter than a patient puzzle adventure. All of the visuals in Tray Racers! feel like the cheerful blend of a crayon box and rainbow sherbet.
It is absolutely family-friendly, and even the playable characters are kids. So, it would have been nice if the devs included local multiplayer, which encourages families to share a console and play together. The official Steam page has no word on local gameplay and all of the marketing emphasizes online multiplayer. But online matches will support up to sixteen players, which is fairly impressive.
Surprisingly, all of the tracks are going to be randomly generated with a variety of landscapes and obstacles. That’s a simple but very slick idea to keep up with the sprawling imagination of kids, and would have benefited a lot of other notable racing games. It will definitely add a lot of replay value.
Tray Racers! should be a breezy, satisfying new indie. It would be just perfect if a certain phog made a cameo, but Scrump will do for now.
