Panda Punch, an indie puzzle platformer from developer Ninja Rabbit Studios, will officially launch on December 16th, 2022, according to a new tweet from publisher Ratalaika Games. It will be available on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch:
Ratalaika Games has continued their interesting habit of announcing release dates for their indies within days of launch, just as they revealed Intrepid Izzy a couple of weeks ago.
Hopefully this marketing approach will benefit Panda Punch, which has some promise as a throwback to simpler platforming days, with various animals battling robots. Panda Punch was teased for release as far back as last July, so it’s been a long road here, and perhaps they felt buzz would sustain closer to launch. Here’s the old tweet before the delay:
Classic platformers needed to have an iconic hero, clever obstacles, neat bosses and a unique setting or art design. Panda Punch doesn’t necessarily do anything wrong, but it doesn’t quite boast any of those features either.
Still, there’s been an emphasis on puzzles in a lot of the gameplay and marketing revealed thus far, so that may help distinguish the game a bit. Very few details have been revealed, including the Steam product page, though it does add that nearly sixty levels will be available in-game. As a result, it may be best to reserve judgment until launch like any other game.
The graphics are certainly improved compared to developer Ninja Rabbit Studios’ previous platformer Micetopia. That game actually had plenty of personality in its mythology, alongside fun level design, so perhaps Panda Punch will follow suit. At the very least, like Micetopia, it should also be very affordable and worth a shot.
