Mega City Police, an upcoming roguelike shooter and stylized throwback to RoboCop’s age of action movies, has just announced in a new tweet that solo developer Undreamed Games has officially partnered with renowned publisher Ravenage Games.
Supported platforms, regions, and a release window have not been confirmed. However, today’s announcement also hints that a new trailer is coming soon:
Ravenage Games recently announced a release date for Masterplan Tycoon, and showed off a new trailer for Legendary Hoplite late last month. They’ve proven to be a flexible publisher that supports a wide variety of indies, so it’s always intriguing to see what direction they’ll publish next.
Mega City Police has a clear art design that openly riffs on RoboCop and similar retro action movies in all the best ways. While there is no trailer, a very extensive look at early gameplay is available on YouTube, which is also found on the game’s Itch.io page. You can review the footage yourself, bearing in mind that many changes have been made since this 2021 video, and more are surely on the way:
It’s made clear that the roguelike elements will be suitably challenging, though not impossible, encouraging strategy and making each victory more satisfying.
The art design and gameplay loop do bring indie juggernaut Hotline Miami to mind, given the bloody fast-paced action and terrific music. But Mega City Police has plenty of its own flavor, including a clever, curved screen presentation and neat mechanics like blocking projectiles with a melee. Here’s a sample of that footage from the Twitter account:
Although it would be nice to see other environments, that’s because the gritty style and unforgiving gameplay look very appealing. Hopefully, the new trailer will explain more details about the Ravenage partnership. Today’s new tweet hinted that they would bring Mega City Police to “you all”, but it’s too early to speculate on the scope of their publishing.
