Masterplan Tycoon, a real-time strategy and resource management sim from developer Bureau Bravin, has just revealed that it will launch on March 9th, 2023. It will be available on Steam, where interested fans can play a demo today. Here’s the full release date trailer from publisher Ravenage Games:
Masterplan Tycoon proudly flaunts a minimalist art design, which is supported by a clever premise. The mechanics themselves are simple, but the system that players create in-game can become very complex.
Similarly, today’s trailer was a very creative surprise, using the game’s supply line mechanics to showcase the flow of game development. It’s an interesting recap for unfamiliar fans. It’s also genuinely amusing when the vacation supply line skips over the release date announcement, since that is generally pretty tough to secure and maintain as it approaches.
Masterplan Tycoon was built to be relaxing, since there are no penalties, and it has a friendly learning curve as systems become more elaborate. So, players can eventually solve things at their own pace.
However, sometimes games that were built to feel calming can end up too simple and leave the player uninterested. Fortunately, Masterplan Tycoon’s challenges are quite balanced, and the minimalist visuals help with escalating difficulty. The overall theme of construction and improvement also reinforces the relaxing tone.
So, although it’s clear that this game wears its budget on its sleeve, it is conceptually sound and surprisingly fun. Since the nodes and connections can all represent literally anything, it would be nice to see more content sometime.
Developer Bureau Bravin doesn’t have a library of other games for reference, but publisher Ravenage Games has published a lot of charming indies like Frozen Flame and Necrobouncer. Ravenage Games revealed a new trailer for Legendary Hoplite last month.
