Disaster Band, an indie that puts an amusing little twist on rhythm games, has released a new trailer announcing it will launch next week on December 20th, 2022. It was developed by PRODUKTIVKELLER Studios, and published by SunDust, a label of Toplitz Productions. You can watch today’s new gameplay trailer for Disaster Band on Toplitz’s YouTube channel here:
The clever premise of Disaster Band may be enough to draw an audience. Although it can be played solo, it was clearly built as a party game, creating more chaos as you invite more friends to play. Rhythm games can be very appealing, and Disaster Band embraces the mistakes as a point of humor.
While party games like the Jackbox Party Pack series mainly rely on competition, and Among Us plays on communication itself, Disaster Band is more interesting in creating a cooperative mess. The trailer smartly uses “In the Hall of the Mountain King”, the poster song for escalation.
Disaster Band definitely has a fun hook, but the real highlight is the Steam Workshop support. Players will get to create and share their own tracks, allowing a community to build and thrive by their own creativity.
Surprisingly, German developers PRODUKTIVKELLER Studios are best known for Garden Simulator, so Disaster Band feels much less elaborate. The novelty of Disaster Band could wear off pretty quickly, since terrible music is still terrible to listen to. But the rhythm gameplay has the potential to give Disaster Band a longer lifespan.
It’s a little strange that the release trailer waited so close to the actual launch, and that it rolls out on a Tuesday instead of a weekend, being a party game. But it should certainly be worth any gaming party lineup.
