Riot Games has introduced their latest work in combating smurfs in VALORANT.
The free-to-play first-person tactical hero shooter game, VALORANT, has gained a huge player base over the years since its release. However, not all of these VALORANT accounts belong to individual players as some of them could be smurf accounts.
Smurfing has become rampant in VALORANT, just as it has in almost every other online competitive game. Some players engage in smurfing to get an advantage over others who have lower play levels, while others do it to assist their friends who are in lower ranks. In any case, smurfing has a detrimental impact on the vast majority of players, particularly on those playing at lower ranks.
As a solution, Riot Games previously introduced its Smurf Detection system as part of Patch 5.01. The system is intended to assess the performance of smurf accounts and bring them to the original player’s level more quickly than expected. As such, players with smurf accounts will spend less time at lower ranks and will have the opportunity to jump plenty of ranks quickly if they focus hard on their placements.
Recently, Riot Games made an announcement on the results of previous updates on the Smurf Detection system. The most recent automated Smurf Detection, which adjusts smurf accounts within their proper MMR, led to a significant reduction in matches with a smurf account. Furthermore, smurfing has been significantly cut down as a result of changes made to the 5-stack limit, which has contributed to an improvement in the overall fairness of matches. When compared to earlier in the year, the overall number of smurfs has decreased by -17%, and newly created smurf accounts are reaching their appropriate MMR rate two to three times faster.
Riot Games has also revealed that they have other improvements planned for the VALORANT Smurf Detection system, which are expected to be published on their website soon.
