After nearly a decade of continuous development, Cinder Studio has announced that Roblox High School 2 (RHS2) will no longer receive major updates. The decision comes as the studio tries to explore new creative endeavors and address the limitations of the school genre.

In a heartfelt message to the RHS2 community on Discord (Thanks RTC on Twitter), Cindering (Brian) acknowledged the game’s enduring popularity and expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of its players. However, Brian emphasized the challenges of maintaining creative enthusiasm after years of working on the same project. To quote the post:

“We’ve tried before to do bigger, more ambitious updates to RHS2 to keep things fresh, such as the Fishing and Trading updates – but unfortunately, the honest truth is that these kinds of updates have failed to appeal to the majority of RHS2’s players.”

Cinder Studio attributed this disconnect to the game’s core identity as a high school roleplaying/hangout game. While Cindering (Brian) acknowledged the fun and rewarding nature of these niche updates for the Roblox game, it recognized that they strayed too far from the game’s core appeal.

“We’ve got so many cool ideas in our heads, but the limitations of the ‘school’ genre hold us back from executing the ideas we want to create,” Brian said. Despite the decision to halt major updates, Cinder Studio assured players that RHS2 will not be abandoned.

Minor maintenance updates will continue to ensure the game’s smooth operation, and recurring holiday events will keep the spirit of the community alive. “The game will still be around for a very, very long time,” the studio affirmed. However, the focus will shift to Cinder Studio’s next ambitious project, which promises to unleash the studio’s creative potential.

While details remain under wraps, the studio has been alluding to a new setting that will provide the freedom to realize their long-held aspirations. “This new project may have some similarities to certain parts of RHS2,” the studio teased, “but it will be in a completely different setting which allows us to pull off all the ideas we’ve been dreaming of.”

The transition to maintenance mode means this is pretty much the end of new content for RHS2. So if you’re looking for more, you should keep an eye on their Roblox Group.
