Roblox is getting voice chat at some point in the future, so be ready to dust off your microphones, because you'll be chatting with your friends soon enough!

Roblox’s Investor Day video has been released, and with it came some interesting tidbits on the future of the platform. There’s a lot of improvements that are on the way, including advanced avatars and layered clothing. You can also expect to see improved facial animations, which will be implemented via the acquisition of Loom.ai. While this is all great, one of the bits of news that seemed to stick out to players is the fact that voice chat is coming to Roblox in some way in the future.

This was only briefly mentioned in a section of the video that was discussing how text chat is one of the primary ways that players communicate with each other. They also revealed that as of December 2020, Roblox was processing 2 billion chat messages each day.

Here’s the only thing that was mentioned about voice chat in the video:

In the future, we expect to open up communication through safe voice chat.

For some reason, this one little sentence has many people reacting as if this is going to be the downfall of the platform. While this feature will be interesting once it has been implemented, you can pretty much guarantee that it is going to be strictly monitored in some way. I highly doubt that it will just be an open chat within a game, and you will most likely have to enter into a voice chat group or enable it manually. You should also keep in mind that people are using voice chat already, they just aren’t doing it within the platform. Discord is quite popular among Roblox players, and plenty of them are talking in voice chat there. So, it’s only natural that Roblox brings it in house in some way!

If you missed out on the Roblox Investor Day video, then you can check out below. The part about voice chat is at 51:33!
