Karagon, an upcoming indie survival game featuring a dangerous open world full of robots you can ride, has just announced that it will launch on February 14th, 2023. Karagon was first announced a year ago, and will finally be available on Steam, where you can wishlist the game now. Here’s the full release date trailer from developer and publisher Tbjbu2:
Indie developer Tbjbu2 has gained a lot of recent attention with the announcement trailer for Grand Emprise: Time Travel Survival. The time travel approach was certainly very clever, and is much broader than Karagon, but that shouldn’t dissuade sci-fi fans from giving it a try.
Karagon’s creature design is pretty neat for its host of interactive robots, many of which also happen to resemble prehistoric animals. Their movement and fine details are interesting, with tiny moving parts that were certainly demanding for an indie dev.
The art style and mechanics of Karagon essentially blend ARK: Survival Evolved with the enemies in Horizon Forbidden West, and it looks like a glorious partnership thus far.
Today’s release date trailer doesn’t reveal much more than the gameplay trailer that was released six months ago, which is both unfortunate and odd. Given that Karagon plans to launch in under a month, it’s a little concerning for the state of the game.
However, what brief glimpses are actually added do look promising. Ideally, a smaller trailer will have something more to offer closer to the launch date.
Survival games must share many of the same mechanics, so they often thrive on their setting and lore. Karagon certainly has potential, even if it might end up eclipsed by Grand Emprise: Time Travel Survival, since they share so many of the same characteristics.
