Rocket League, the classic sports and racing combo from developer and publisher Psyonix, just released a new trailer for its upcoming Drive Days event. The update will feature the limited-time modes Spike Rush and Heatseeker, as well as new challenges, rewards, and even a community contest.
The new Drive Days event is slated to launch next week on April 26th, 2023, and will run through May 10th, 2023. You can watch the full Drive Days trailer on the Rocket League YouTube channel:
The highlight of the Drive Days event is probably intended to be the extensive lineup of upcoming cars, with a Car Show scheduled to roll out on April 26th and May 3rd. However, Spike Rush and Heatseeker are LTMs that haven’t been featured for a very long time, and should get longtime fans excited.
Heatseeker first showed up in 2020, and Spike Rush debuted even farther back as part of Radical Summer. It’s an appropriate time for both of them to return, since each theme fits the warm spring season.
Strangely, today’s trailer doesn’t really explain either mode. Spike Rush gives spikes to all players but removes boosting for the ball carrier, while Heatseeker features a ball that automatically aims for goals. Both of them offer some very creative twists on timing and quick-thinking.
It’s also appreciated that the Redline Car can be unlocked by completing challenges, since a lot of Rocket League content is stuck behind paywalls. Most of the other rewards are fairly traditional and not very interesting, but there’s probably enough to keep players busy.
A community contest featuring fanart is always a welcome surprise. Every game is fueled by fans, and it’s always a delight to see how creative they can really get. It’s a great opportunity for talent to get noticed, too.
