Whispers of a long-anticipated Metal Gear Solid remake resurface, claiming the project persists within Konami’s development pipeline. While all rumors must be taken with a grain of salt, this comes from the same place that leaked the God of War Ragnarok DLC.
Areajugones, a website that posts primarily in Spanish, said that these rumors echo earlier rumblings from 2023. This was when there were many hints at a potential Metal Gear Solid remake announcement throughout the year. While that revelation never materialized, Konami did unveil two significant franchise initiatives: the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 compilation and the Metal Gear Solid Delta project.
Adding credence to the latest murmurings is the source’s past accuracy. Previously, they successfully leaked details of God of War Ragnarök’s post-launch DLC, lending weight to their current claims. According to their accounts, the Metal Gear Solid remake is in its early stages and is envisioned as a major undertaking for Konami in the coming years. Should Delta land a 2024 release, the remake would logically be the next thing the studio puts out.
The article makes it clear that nothing significant is known about the Metal Gear Solid remake other than they believe it is in development. Its development timeline, estimated budget, and even the studio handling its creation are unknown. Additionally, speculation points towards a PlayStation 5 exclusive release, mirroring the Demon’s Souls remake strategy.
While Konami has yet to officially acknowledge the remake’s existence, these rumors keep faith alive. I personally believe they’re true since most places are looking to cash in on remakes, but I don’t think it’s at all far in development. Studios can only work on one game at a time, and we already know that Metal Gear Solid Delta is in development, so I wouldn’t say they are trying to split their time between two big projects.
Even still, I suggest being cautious because we saw what happened with Metal Gear Survive. We’ll have to wait and see how Delta does, and then we can speculate how Konami would handle the possibility of revisiting Shadow Moses Island in a next-generation reimagining.
