To celebrate the season, RuneScape has announced the return of the Spring Festival event and Frank’s Free Chest along with other several improvements and fixes, in today’s update.
As in previous years, the Spring Festival event arrives in RuneScape and will take place in the area south of the Archaeology Guild. With this event, players will be able to gather up Spring Tokens, take part in Clue Hunts, and battle the Giant Guthixian Butterfly. This year, the Spring Festival will run from today April 3rd until April 16th, 2023.
Over the course of the Spring Festival event, players will randomly receive maps to Lost Easter Baskets while going about their regular adventures. Maps may also be purchased with Spring Tokens. Finding the Basket will provide players with the brand-new Skilling Pet Bunny Ear Token, allowing them to add cute bunny ears to any of their skill pets. Additional prizes in this year’s spring Festival include a beautiful Easter Egg or the Basket itself, as well as two items from the list below:
- Butterfly jar (Huge)
- Butterfly jar (Large)
- Butterfly jar (Medium)

Another highlight of today’s update is Frank’s Free Chests return in RuneScape. This time-limited event was first introduced in January 2023, where players gather keys for Redbeard Frank, found in Port Sarim in front of The Rusty Anchor, to earn rewards. However, the latest update brings some changes to the mechanics of this event.
On April 5th, 2023, Frank’s Free Chests will return in RuneScape, but this time players will no longer use Keys to earn prizes. Instead, RuneScape is introducing a new event currency called Bits of Eight. Once this event has launched, players will earn one Bit each day on login, and one per hour played, to a maximum of 16 Bits of Eight per week. Every 16 Bits earned will reward a Pirate Plunder, which contains one Doubloons title, an item from either the Regular or Special loot, and a random selection of pirate cosmetics.
