Jagex, the developer behind the fantasy MMO RuneScape, has announced that Necromancy, a new standalone combat skill, will be launched on August 7, 2023. This new skill is a unique addition to the game’s combat dynamics, being the first of its kind to be introduced in RuneScape’s two decades of existence.

To provide a glimpse into the mystical and dark capabilities players will be mastering later this summer, a cinematic trailer has been released. In the trailer, the character of Death implores the heroes of Gielinor to learn the art of Necromancy to help reestablish the balance between life and death.

The Necromancy skill forms one of the significant updates of RuneScape for 2023. It is designed to offer both seasoned and novice players a challenge as they delve into their inner darkness and master this archaic combat technique throughout a narrative-rich and profound adventure.

The game will transport players into Gielinor’s underworld, where they will interact and liberate the undead. By joining forces, they will augment their powers and conquer the First Necromancer. The gameplay features the use of a Death Guard and Skull Lantern, with players pitting against formidable adversaries across Gielinor and the underworld while honing their Necromancy combat, Rituals, and Runecrafting skills.

Necromancy will be extending up to level 120, with an introductory cap at level 20 for free-to-play users. This marks a significant update to the game, as it’s the first new combat skill released outside the original three styles, pushing the combat level from 138 up to 152.
