Today’s trailer may not boast the best voice performances, but it is immediately clear that Sclash is a genuinely beautiful game. Hand-drawn artwork consistently pays off, since the required effort is easily distinguishable in every little detail. Just about any frame from today’s trailer is a worthwhile wallpaper.

The art design is full of classic influences, with settings, costumes and action that feel larger than life. This is contrasted with the simplistic gameplay loop and mechanics, which intentionally aim for a “plug’n play” approach according to the Steam page.

The duels are expected to have minimal controls, but they will also demand careful management. There are sure to be comparisons to classics like Bushido Blade. But Sclash is clearly much simpler, making for a more accessible experience.

Sclash’s new trailer also mentions a Story mode. Ideally, it would add meaning to your duels, and include additional characters or environments. The acting in today’s trailer doesn’t seem very promising, but that’s subjective and hardly the point of the game.

Sclash doesn’t just have incredible imagery and animation, but also clean sound effects and a stunning soundtrack. These work together to capture a high level of tension and immersion. It has remarkable style, as well as an unexpected volume of content, and that’s surely more than enough.
