In a recent announcement, SNK confirmed a delay to the Samurai Shodown rollback netcode update, shifting its release from the initial spring window to late summer 2023.
SNK’s announcement regarding the delay of the Samurai Shodown netcode update shared some insight into the decision. “SNK has been hard at work on the rollback netcode update for Samurai Shodown, originally slated for a spring 2023 release,” the announcement began. “The 1st Community Beta Test offered us great insight as to what we needed to improve. However, as a result of various setbacks and extenuating circumstances during development and in light of our ongoing efforts to further enhance player experience, we have made the decision to push back the official release of the update to late summer 2023.”
The company extended its apologies to its customers and fans who have been eagerly awaiting the update, acknowledging the potential disappointment that the decision might have caused. As part of the revised update schedule, SNK is planning to conduct the 2nd Community Beta Test on Steam in June 2023. Further details about this are expected to be released soon.
Samurai Shodown, first launched in 1993, made its grand return in a new installment that featured high-end visuals and gameplay, ten years after its last series release. The game faithfully maintains its original mechanics and atmosphere that led to its success. It also introduces a revolutionary feature that learns players’ game actions and patterns, enabling the creation of CPU-controlled “ghost” characters. The story of this installment takes place a year before the first game, with warriors of diverse backgrounds battling to achieve their respective goals.
SNK, along with its partners at Code Mystics, remains committed to delivering a superior online battle experience and expresses appreciation for the understanding and patience of the players.
Samurai Shodown is currently accessible on various platforms including Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. However, the rollback netcode update will not be rolled out for the Switch version of the game.
